Weekend Update (longer than intended) Friday, went to Artifact 03. It was fun to see friends, a few that I haven't seen in a while, although there was both less art and people than the previous two events, very surprising. There was also some entertaining drama with the ladies in our group disagreeing amongst themselves, culminating in one of them obstinately refusing to get out of the car after arriving at Shakespeare's Pub later in the evening, deciding to sleep in the back seat instead. She was apparently annoyed that her friend wasn't considerate of her requests to leave earlier and wanted to express this through heavy pouting. The other two women were dedicated in their efforts at salvaging the evening however and hopped out almost immediately upon arrival, leaving me in the driver's seat, flabbergasted, proposing and pitching alternatives to the back seat camper. After a short while, I finally realized that my solutions were for naught and that I could see my car from the pub patio anyway. The remaining three of us sat outside, enjoyed the crisp air, good beer, cigarettes and even a light drizzle, looking out over the airport while one of the team slept away in the car. Surreal. Saturday, wasn't in the mood to get up early for soccer, especially with Travis having invited me to my first ever sloshball game at noon. For those as naive as me, sloshball = softball with alcohol, where you have to drink to make it past first. In a bout of drunken enthusiasm on a beer-pounding triple by yours truly, I tore up my lower left leg pretty well with a slide to third. Stupid soccer instincts, go away. Haven't wowed that many people with a scraped knee and shin and ankle and free-flowing blood since I was kid. Overheard, softly spoken amongst the women a few yards away: "I don't want to look at it, but I can't help myself. I'm repulsed, yet I am drawn." Not a very smart thing to make first impressions with, what the hell. Saturday night's date didn't happen, she was sick at home with a migraine and enlisted her roommate in self-medicating with ice cream and a movie. It was probably just as well, given my fluid-leaking leg and early hangover. We had a good conversation on the phone instead; bonding with a fellow SD local, one that I actually got along with and had half a brain in her head, discussing things like how shitty a scene PB is and what it used to be like, the difficulty in finding no-money fun, how people cook up a "bar image" of themselves when one-on-one rather than a group setting, etc. She has wednesday off and we're supposed to hang out, it's up to me to come up with something fun. I'm thinking either a lunch picnic date, the open-air musical theater in Vista, something different, especially because we agreed on her "bar image" theory, how annoying the typical get-to-know-you conversation is, peppered with questions like "so how many siblings do you have?" Sunday, nice relaxing day, saw a disturbing thought-provoking movie, Capturing The Friedmans, with Michaella and Rodrigo. We had a good conversation afterwards at the Coffee Bean, analyzing the craziness and sharing some of our own family dramas that the movie harkened. Pretty much just putzed around after that - ahhh...
