Things That Rock Me

Wednesday, January 12, 2005

Just a quick note on things that I've found to be the new hotness as of late, in no particular order:

  • Basecamp - rediscovered the coolness of this recently after leaving UCSD; it might be even better suited to my work situation now. Free to get started, cheap to upgrade.
  • Transmit - the world's best FTP client for the Mac. I just paid good money for it - I know, I know, I actually paid for something - that's how good it is! I was first turned on to Panic Software when reading their riveting account of building Audion, the app that almost became iTunes.
  • del.icio.us - I've waxed poetic about this already to friends online and off, so I'll just say ditto.
  • RSS Digest - the combination of this with del.icio.us has opened up my mind to all kinds of exciting mini-projects - God Bless The Web 2.0.
  • Bloglines - information overload = almost cured. I was practically bordering on a nervous breakdown from using anything else and believe me, I tried several apps.
  • IKEA - my place is slowly becoming the shit, thanks to these Swedish design gnomes. We are the Design Within Reach generation and they are one of the flag-bearers.
  • The Casbah - “The Only Cool Place In San Diego”
  • The Post - it's like being bored at home and finding out the neighbor next door just invited you to a cool party. Hawt.
  • Getting Things Done and 43Folders - I'm in the beginning stages of having my brain scrubbed clean by this cult.
  • my iBook - thanks to Panther's transfer feature, upgraded painlessly from my 12" with the G3 chip to the 12" G4 about a month ago - things have been running so smoothly that I forgot I even changed hardware.
  • Quicksilver - it's like an extension of my thoughts, what the combination of Spotlight and Dashboard promises to be in Tiger, but here right now instead.
  • Poker - I look forward to the Texas Hold Em game every week; I feel a Vegas trip coming on.
  • Blogger - every once in a while I stop and realize how cool this tool is.
  • Flickr - I don't even have a digital camera, yet I'm hooked. That's saying something.
That's a great recommendation Sal. Although I've had a wonderful time with Transmit and probably won't be switching anytime soon, I've been thinking about giving Interarchy a try ever since Jon Gruber named it as his app of the year:
