Does Google Pages Suck?
Friday, February 24, 2006
Update: I removed some linkrot and replaced a broken link to the announcement that Frontpage was killed off.
I saw Google Pages pop up on the del.icio.us “popular links” radar earlier this week and Drew McLellan's reviewed it already.
Signup was painless, editing was painless, publishing was painless. The resultant markup? Painful.
Is it just me, but why is the initial report about each new web publishing tool the same old goddamn refrain? What is this, nineteen-ninety-fucking-eight? When the hell are tool-makers going to start respecting the markup that comes out under the hood instead of just the surface-level appearance?
I'm officially out of patience when even Google gets this shit wrong. I was rejoicing about Frontpage dying earlier this week and the relief was short-lived - we're making some of the same mistakes all over again, but hey, it's okay because it's on the web daddyo and that makes it cool, dontcha know?
elsewhere on the web: Frontpage, Google, Pages, webstandards, markup, html
not WYSIWYG! Not standards conformant. A real time waster.
