How To Hack Together A Local Music Podcast
Tuesday, April 18, 2006
I like this simple podcast hack, it's a great way to get some fresh new tunes that are geographically relevant and it takes about a minute to set up.
- Go to podbop.org, enter your city name, copy the link to the RSS feed.
- Go to Odeo, scroll to the bottom right of the page, click on “add a feed”.
- Paste in the URL from step 1.
- Enjoy! The resulting page is your personal media player of music by bands that are coming to your town, skewed towards indie pop and alt rock. Click play and jam away.
- (optional) Mail your URL out to friends and share your tastes - you can even send out the URL of individual songs.
Here's the one I made this morning that I've been listening to while getting set up at the new office today: http://odeo.com/channel/96528/view
elsewhere on the web: music, podcast, hack, events, localmusic, podbop, odeo, indie, indierock, indiemusic, indiepop, altrock
You can't listen to the feed at podbop, as far as I know. You can only generate the feed, then it's up to you to use whatever method you want to subscribe to the feed - you can use odeo, your itunes player, whatever.
This method is just a quick and easy way to get the tunes going wherever you are, no installs necessary, perfect for the office or at a friend's house, for example.
