Update: Hey email subscribers, sorry for the double post. I'm still new to sending out newsletters and screwed up yesterday - the post is in its entirety below...

This is a quick test of some new functionality on the site: publishing blog posts and email newsletters at the same time. Thanks to all those that have signed up so far - some of you got on board quite a ways back and it was a great excuse to get in touch with old friends.

This quick note is also to let everyone know I'm alive. Just a little ping on your radar, if you will, since I've been so remiss lately. It seems like I let the blog go neglected every spring! I've been cranking away at work and wrapping up my first big project, so I'm looking forward to my schedule finally lightening up a little bit. But man, I've been having an extended case of writer's block during what little free time I've had, like I talked about with Ingrid today:

  • [12:53] alperabut: man, I miss writing
  • [12:53] alperabut: I wonder if it helps to have a regular publishing schedule and/or agenda
  • [12:53] electromute: you just don't have time now?
  • [12:53] alperabut: I don't know! whether it's time or motivation
  • [12:54] alperabut: I've just been so busy crunching down at work
  • [12:54] electromute: yeah
  • [12:54] alperabut: I think I've felt some kind of weird pressure as my audience has grown, like I should have something more worthwhile to say or something that appeals to everyone
  • [12:54] alperabut: I need to shut that nonsense out and just try to please myself...
  • [12:54] electromute: i know, it's tough
  • [12:54] electromute: it's the same reason I have trouble writing in the first place!
  • [12:54] alperabut: totally!
  • [12:55] alperabut: when you just start getting big enough to start getting feedback, you start to unconsciously wonder whether what you're writing appeals to those people
  • [12:55] alperabut: I think it's a learning process you have to go through - how to please people by forgetting that you're writing for anyone other than yourself and what you find interesting
